Florida-bound senior Grace Rabb of Dripping Springs wins two golds at state swimming meet
(Austin American-Statesman Article)
Dripping Spring senior Grace Rabb is much too humble to declare she'll be the next Katie Ledecky of the swimming pool.
It doesn't matter that they have a few things in common. Both are amazing swimmers -- Ledecky has won nine Olympic gold medals -- but it goes a step beyond that. Ledecky is a former University of Florida All-American and Rabb will compete for the Gators next season.
Rabb was among several Central Texans who earned medals at the UIL State Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center Saturday.
Rabb, who moved to Dripping Springs from Minnesota before school started in August, ruled the pool with a gold-medal finish in the Class 6A girls 200 IM. Her time of 1:56.40 broke the 6A state record set by Westlake's Mary Beck, whose mark of 1:56.56 in 2008. Rabb's time was also more than two seconds better than runner-up Avery Collins of Keller.
Rabb, 18, added to her collection by winning the 6A 100-yard backstroke and breaking another state record. Her time of 53:01 seconds broke the record held by Lucie Nordmann of The Woodlands, who set the mark of 52.48 in 2017. Again, Rabb's time was two seconds faster than the second-place finisher, Macey deGroot of League City Clear Springs.
